Whether you drive a small hatchback, large 4x4 or 7.5-tonne truck, drive for work, to work or just use your car for the school run, our winter car checklist contains items that will help all drivers. 

 

The essentials 

Whilst the winter conditions do propose more difficulties on the roads, we’re never without problems. These are the essential items you should be carrying in your car all year round, so you’re prepared. 

  1. An in-car phone charger or portable power bank 
  2. Sunglasses 
  3. First aid kit 
  4. Road atlas
  5. Sat Nav and/or a printed route for unfamiliar journeys 

 

The winter emergency essentials 

As winter sets in, it’s important to be prepared if the worst were to happen. We suggest that you add these items to your normal essentials kit as winter weather supplies, just in case. You’ll be glad of them at 2 am as you wait on the side of the road for roadside assistance! 

  1. A blanket or sleeping bag 
  2. Spade 
  3. Ice scraper/de-icer 
  4. Torch with spare batteries 
  5. Snacks 
  6. Extra screen wash 

 

The severe weather warning extras 

Now, these may sound extreme, but with weather warnings already and the fact that some of us live in more rural areas mean that these could be a lifesaver if you did get stuck in a storm!

  1. A spare warm winter coat, scarf, hat, gloves and additional warm clothes
  2. Waterproofs 
  3. Winter shoes/boots 
  4. A flask of hot drink 

By following just a few of the points in our winter car checklist, you’ll put yourself in a good position for those emergency situations. The chances are you’ll never need it, but, if you do, you’ll be glad that it’s there!
