The tests represent real-life accident scenarios that could result in injury or killed car occupants or other road users. 

With every rating, the more stars, the better! A car is given their star award by looking at not only how it performs in a crash test situation, but what safety equipment is available and how easy the additional safety equipment is to get your hands on in Europe. 

Each car is assessed across four important areas;

- Adult Occupant Protection which includes both driver and passenger 

- Child Occupant Protection

- Vulnerable Road Users which includes pedestrian protection and cyclist protection. 

- Safety Assist which will evaluate driver-assistance and crash-avoidance technologies.
