Not an off-the-shelf solution

Whilst the majority of us were being asked to stay at home, there was a huge increase in demand this year for vehicles and drivers across a number of industries, that the majority of us were relying on. Some of which are obvious – our food deliveries, home shopping, toys and crafts to keep everyone occupied… And in the background, all of these services and more, faced enormous challenges to keep the country running smoothly.

We caught up with Mike Stokes from Go Service Solutions, about a recent project with VMS Vehicle Hire, following a change in industry dynamics as a direct result of the pandemic.

Facing huge increases in demand across their delivery business, GSS found themselves requiring approximately 40% more vehicles over the initially predicted Q4 plans.

With customers urgently needing additional vehicles for home delivery, PPE and NHS Testing Kit deliveries, GSS were in a difficult position. The team at VMS Vehicle Hire worked hard to help find a solution that has contributed hugely to the position that GSS is now in, seeing them through the Christmas period, delivery peak and beyond.

Having had some previous history with the business, Mike reached out to VMS for help to resource these unprecedented uplifts in demand and was rewarded with fantastic resourcefulness. VMS were able to find a solution which provided GSS with 80 new vans in around 6 weeks.

One of the vans telematics systems indicated a potential issue just yesterday and Aaron was on the phone to me before I’d even heard about it internally – he didn’t have to do that."
