Vehicle Hire Frequently Asked Questions - Car Hire Info

We have tried to cover the most frequently asked questions however please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any other queries.

Good news, you can! But there will be a £10.00 administration fee. 

You will need to go to  https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence and follow the instructions to create a ‘check code’.

Once you have created the ‘check code’ this will be valid for 21 days. You will need to share this with us, allowing us to see the necessary details to permit you to hire one of our vehicles. 

Unfortunately we cannot accept the driving license counterpart.

If you have 6 or less penalty points you are good to go. Unfortunately if you have any more than this you will be unable to hire one of our vehicles. Alternatively you can provide your own insurance and still hire a vehicle. Please contact our office on 0800 622 62 42 and the team would be happy to help. 

Please note if you have a DD, DR, IN, TT or BA endorsement within the last 3-5 years you are not able to hire from us. Again Please check with our office for further clairification. 

EU, Commonwealth & North American licences are normally acceptable, but we would need to check with our insurers first. If you hold a foreign licence and are living in the UK, you must also be able to provide a valid passport and proof of current UK address.

If you are hiring your vehicle whilst on holiday in the UK you must be able to produce your return confirmation or e-ticket.

In the unlikely event your hire vehicle breaksdown or you're involved in accident, please call our 24/7 Accident, Maitenance and Breakdown hotline as soon as it is safe to do so.

Things like this happen! If you lose the keys or get them locked inside the vehicle, please call our 24/7 Accident, Maintenance and Breakdown hotline on +44 (0) 800 622 62 42 and we'll be happy to help.

In the event that the vehicle you booked is not available, we will do our best to find a suitable alternative that you're happy with.

It's your responsibility to pay any congestion charges or tolls. Please make sure you pay for tolls at approved retailers or approved websites in good time to avoid a fine.

If we receive a fine, then a £35 admin fee will be charged on top of the cost of the fine.

You will be responsible for any costs from parking fines or other penalties incurred whilst you hire the vehicle. We reserve the right to make reasonable charges for our time incurred and the administration costs involved in processing any fines and/or penalties.

Please call the Hire Team on +44 (0) 800 622 62 42 at least 24 hours before your booking becomes active. After 24 hours, a minimum of one day's rental will be charged.

If you wish to extend your hire, arrangements must be made prior to the expiry of the current agreement and an additional payment made to enable the hire period and insurance cover to be extended.

No, the vehicle can only be returned during working hours so a member of our hire team can check over the vehicle.

You can return the vehicle late if the vehicle is available and you give 24 hours' notice by contacting our Hire Team on +44 (0) 800 622 62 42

If you do not notify the Hire Team or if the vehicle needs to be returned for another hire, you will be charged for the extended period and any lost business that we incurred from the non-availability of the vehicle. This will be a maximum charge of one day's rental.

Excellent News, unlike many other hire providers. Yes! you can Tow with our vehicle, although please bear in mind we do not cover the Carriage and items being towed on our insurance policy.  Please see our terms and conditions. 

We operate a "like for like" fuel policy. Please replace the fuel you use so that the vehicle is ready for the next customer.

We charge for fuel shortages and do not give refunds for excess fuel.

As of 10/09/2013, professional drivers of buses, coaches and vehicles above 3.5 tonnes are required to carry a CPC at all times. If a CPC is not held and you are found driving one of these vehicles, a fine of £1000 is payable. The Hire Team will ask to see your CPC when collecting the vehicle.

UK Licence Holders

If you passed your driving test after 1st January 1997 you are entitled to drive category B vehicles. This is vehicles up to and including 3.5 tonne GVW and vehicles with a maximum of 9 seats (driver and 8 passenger seats). In order to drive a 7.5 tonne GVW vehicle, category C1 is required. A further test is necessary in order to obtain entitlement to this driving category.

If in doubt, please check your driving license . Alternatively, you can check your driving category entitlements at gov.uk/view-driving-licence.

Non UK Licence Holders

Normally, non-UK licence holders are entitled to drive category B vehicles as above. If in doubt, you can obtain further advice at gov.uk/driving-nongb-licence.

Payment can only be made by debit or credit card. Unfortunately, we do not accept cash or cheque payments.

We accept Visa or MasterCard cards.

The hire rate includes100 free miles a day, . If you exceed your free mileage allowance, then you will be charged at a rate of 12 pence plus VAT per mile.

Yes, the standard excess on our vehicles is £500, increasing to £1000 for some trucks and premium vehicles. This is the maximum a customer is liable for in the event of damage to our vehicle or 3rd party.

This excess charge may increase for drivers under the age of 25 or for customers with 6 or more points on their licence.

Ask us about our CDW! 

Yes, you can, we offer an excess reducer for most hires. This will reduce your excess to £250 in the event of damage to the vehicle. This product is not available on some trucks and premium vehicles.

As we are closed on Sundays, you would need to hire the vehicle for the weekend.

Similarly, vehicles cannot be returned on a bank holiday.

Unfortunately, we do not provide child car seats. Please bring your own to ensure that your young passengers are kept safe.

We do not offer additional sat nav's for hire although some vehicles have satellite navigation as standard.

No, under our terms and conditions this type of work is not permitted.

You may drive our vehicles using your own company's fleet insurance cover, provided we have approved this in advance.

In this event, only the restrictions of your own insurance will apply.

It may be worth noting that you will attract cheaper rates when providing your own insurance.

We requie two other forms of valid identification (other than your driving licence) for you and each named driver.

We accept:

  • Bank Statement
  • Credit Card Statement
  • Utility Bill

The documents must be no more than 3 months old and sets out the current address of the driver.

We do not accept electronic copies. We can only accept hard copies provided in person at the time of the hire. This is due to data protection law.

The total rental charge includes everything you need to get on the road:

  • Daily Rental Charge
  • VAT (if applicable)
  • Insurance Cover (if not self-insured)
  • 24/7 Accident, Maintenance and Breakdown Cover

You must be aged between 21-75 and have held a driving licence for a period of 2 years to hire a vehicle.
